Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 29th September 1904 No.33125/1904 and in continuation of
War Office letter of the 22nd September 1904, Hong Kong 8/181 (F.W.3.), on the subject of Military Lands at
Hong Kong, I am commanded by the Army Council to acquaint
you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that they have, with the concurrence of the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury,
selected Colonel J.F.Lewis as the Special Officer to investigate the various Land questions at issue on their behalf.
2. Colonel Lewis has been ordered to proceed forthwith, and it is hoped will arrive at Hong Kong about the 16th January, and the General Officer Commanding in South China, Hong Kong, has been so informed.
3. It is presumed that Mr. Secretary Lyttelton will inform the Governor accordingly.
